Birthdays and The People Who Make Them Great.

To be very honest, today I am uninspired when it comes to posting on my blog. It’s not that things are not happening in my life. I’m job hunting, battling allergies and working on our budget. But, none of those things are interesting enough to put up on the internet. So, after thinking long and hard….for about 15 minutes…I’ve decided to pull out an “old” story. It’s old in that it happened several months ago, during the pre-blog era of my life.

I TURNED 30!!

In November 2005, I turned 30 years old. I didn’t know how I was going to feel, no longer being in my 20s. I was a bit nervous about feeling old, not because I think I’m old, but our society seems to have a stigma about people not in their 20s. Thankfully, the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. phenomenon helped aleviate that stigma some what. Thirties became the new Twenties, and Forties became the new Thirties, and so on.

Happily, I don’t feel old, not even now that I am five months away from being 31. I do feel tempted to feel old at times, but those are the moments I decide to dance. Just like I did on the morning of my 30th birthday. Tony and I woke up at 6am and danced to “A Wink and A Smile” and “Fly Me To The Moon”. It’s my new birthday tradition.

A week or so later, Tony put together a wonderful party with many of our closest friends. We met at a local favorite Italian restaurant. I knew that we would be meeting up with people, but I did not know where we were going. It was a wonderful surprise! Tutto Bene, the restaurant, was one of our favorites because the food was delicious AND they had two older gentlemen who serenaded the tables. Tony, being the good husband that he is, made arrangements for the musicians to remain at our tables for most of the evening.

It was a magical evening with some of the best people I know. People who came to spend their evening with us and celebrate friendships and shared lives together. So important to me, since two years before I spent my birthday with the only two friends I had at the time. For me, that night was a testimony to how our lives can be rebuilt. And, I look forward to adding on to the memory of that night.
