I Hope You Dance

Do you remember that song? It was made popular a few years ago by country singer, Leanne Womack. I believe it was her break-through song. When it first came out, it seemed that everyone around me was buying her cd or the single and everywhere I turned it was being played.

Back in those days, I refused to like anything related to modern country music. So, therefore, by default, I didn’t like the song. It was country and everyone loved it, so, I was not going to like it.

Well, we just heard it again tonight on the new Duets show. You know, the show where they pair up acting/sports stars with music stars and do a celebrity rendition of American Idol. Leanne Womack just sang “I Hope You Dance” with an Olympian gold medalist, and I gotta say, the song is pretty catchy. I found myself singing it well into the commercial break. And, Leanne didn’t get on my nerves, either. She was very supportive of her partner and appeared to really want her to do well.

So, I have found that I was wrong. The song is pretty good. And, I even got a few warm fuzzies when I was singing it.

  • I used to feel that way about country until about 2001. Then I started to like some songs. The girl I was working with, Lynne Massey, (and that’s pronounced Lee-in Ma-ya-see -by Lynne) loved country. She grew up in Greenville, Miss-sippi (also Lynne). She’s great. She actually lives in North Carolina now. Anyway, she listened to it at work and i found myself singing along to SOME of the songs. I always think of my kids graduating from high school and going off to college when I listen to I hope you dance. It’s a good song.

Okay. I have to confess that I HATE reality television. I’m seriously curious. What is it that you like about it? I don’t get it. Help me to understand. Maybe you can convince me that some of it is good… like country music.

  • Well, to be honest, I don’t really like reality tv. We only watch it when there is nothing on and we’re too lazy to read a book or do something else more productive. I’m not going to try to convice you that any of it is good, because I don’t really think that any of it is!
