When things don’t go as planned.

Today I lost my job. At 7:30 a.m., I received a call from my temp agency telling me that the company I was working for chose to end my contract. It kind of came as a surprise, because when I was selected for the position, I was given the expectation that they wanted to hire me at the end of the “temporary” time-limit. Instead, they let me go.

My initial feelings were of failure, rejection, embarassment and the fear of uncertainty. We depended on the job to help us get ahead financially and were counting on the job to eventually provide health insurance for our upcoming delivery. I also felt a sense of loss because I became pretty close with many of the people that I worked with, and now will not get to see them every day. They were becoming my first friends in this new town.

I don’t know when or what my next job will be. But an hour after I got the call, I found myself singing, “You are God alone. In the good times and bad. You are on your throne. You are God alone.”

  • Sorry to hear about the job. That’s a bummer! Poop on a stick to them, they lost a great employee!

  • Hey Val :( I’m sorry to hear about your job- but I’m sure God has a greater plan for you and your life and I know he won’t abandon you-especially at this important time w/ the baby. Let me know if there’s anything I can do. I love you and miss ya!

  • I’m sorry. That stinks. Did you tell them you are pregnant? If so, let’s sue them! You can’t fire/let someone go because she is pregnant. It is illegal. Here’s a link.
