Peanut Butter with Jelly or Bananas?
Tony and I had a very interesting conversation yesterday. We have both been struggling to find our “place” now that we are back in Springfield. Part of that has to do with the fact that we still haven’t found a church that we want to build community with. However, most of it has to do with the fact that we are very different people than we were when we used to live here. We have grown and changed. We have experience diversity and opportunities that just aren’t available here.
I was starting to fear that we were being snobby and picky about what we want out of life. But, Tony, in his wisdom, pointed out that what we are feeling is not unlike sandwiches. It’s a matter of whether we prefer peanut butter with jelly or with bananas. I prefer peanut butter with honey, but I got his point. We all have preferences in life. We all like what we like. I think that what we have experienced in life helps to form those preferences. And, for us, we like jelly.
We have agreed, however, that we are here for a reason and that reason is more than likely for Tony to finish school. And, as long as we are here, we will embrace this stage of our life and make it the best one we’ve ever had. We look forward to the next stage and wonder where life will take us, but we will try to live in the moment, whether it’s what we prefer or not.

Isn’t it awesome that we live in a blessed country where we can taste so…. many different flavors and combinations in all areas of our life. Just pray that God will lead you to the correct place of worship for you guys.

Maybe you have the opportunity to bring something new and fresh to a church. I know it’s hard to try to find a church you are comfortable with, believe me, I know. Maybe God wants you somewhere that needs to be shaken up a bit. Or maybe I’m projecting my feelings onto you:) I feel like too often I’m trying to see what I can get out of a church community instead of what I can give.
“Ask not what your church can do for you — ask what you can do for your church”
or something like that.
I’ll pray for you. I love you and miss you. I need to come visit.
