What they don’t understand.

It’s becoming an increasingly popular thing to cry “foul” and bash Christians, more specifically, Evangelicals. The loudest complaint I’ve been hearing lately, though nothing new, is that people who adhere to Judeo-Christian beliefs are bigoted, self-righteous and hate-filled because they have the gall to believe in and support a certain moral standard.

In our post-modern society, it has become popular to believe that God is all-loving and yet forget that he is also a righteous and holy judge. This has been an intentional shift, allowing people to do whatever they want, in the name of love, without facing any of the consequences or following specific boundaries. So now, Christians who choose to stick to more orthodox beliefs of God and accept a more full, and dare I say, correct view of who he is and who we are supposed to be, are deemed unloving and judgmental. We, I, have become the antagonist in a very liberal, pro-unitarian society.

What they are missing is the fact that what we believe, as orthodox Christians, is completely rooted in love. Loving a person does not mean letting them do whatever they choose, but wanting what is best for that person. And, as a Christian, I believe that upholding God’s full standard is what is best. I don’t hate people who choose differently than me, I love them. I love them so much that I want them to receive the very best that God has for them, which will only happen while living within the boundaries that he has so clearly set in place.

Though I don’t always do it perfectly, I am very willing to support and encourage those within my sphere of influence back toward a Righteous God. I do it because I love them. I am sure that a majority of Christians feel the same way.
